Dive Deep into Performance with power//PLAY!
power//PLAY will be taking over the Deep Dance Series on Friday May 26 and Monday June 12 10am-noon! Dive into the creative process of Jordan Jamil Ahmed and Claire Johannes, and have the opportunity to perform with the company at The Dance Complex's Festival of Us, and You, and We, and Them (June 23-25). In these classes, Claire and Jordan will introduce students to the vibrant, collaborative world of power//PLAY, using multiple mediums of movement generation including writing, story telling, improvisation, and structured games, while simultaneously building a performance work. Interested students who attend both classes will automatically be included in the performance; those who join for one class will be invited for performance at the discretion of the directors.
power//PLAY has recently received a number of residencies and acknowledgements including The Dance Complex's aMaSSiT Choreography Lab and the Green Street Studios SEEDS Residency, and will be in residency at The Yard this summer (www.dancetheyard.org). Jordan and Claire are interested in expanding their company for the 2017-18 season, so this opportunity will also serve as an audition of sorts. Don't miss this opportunity to dive deeply into the creative process of one of Boston's many promising, emerging dance companies!

THINKING SPACE RESEARCH
With this research workshop we will create a space for questioning through movement and embodied consciousness. Drawing from improvisational methods developed by William Forsythe and The Forsythe Company, cognitive psychology, visual art, and architecture, we will seek to access a particular state of mind through physicality and attention. Each workshop in itself is a choreographed improvisation and is therefore different from the last. Central tools include meditation, long sessions of guided improvisation, phrase work development and deconstruction, and verbal dialogue. Interdisciplinary artists and scientists curious about dance thinking are encouraged to attend.

Prior to joining The Forsythe Company, Riley danced with Cedar Lake Contemporary Ballet, Stadttheater Bern, and Netherlands Dance Theater 2. Outside of the theater, he has recently performed in choreographic installations at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, Musée du Louvre, St. Eustache Cathedral in Paris, and Space Gallery in Portland, Maine, as well as for the royal families of Norway, Netherlands, and Japan.
