Dear Dance Enthusiast:
Because of your past support of dance in the Boston area, we wanted you to be among the first to be invited to The Dance Complex’s Dance Building Building Dance campaign. This campaign is a multi-year, $200,000 fundraising initiative designed to expand and improve the physical structure of The Dance Complex while simultaneously improving and developing dance instruction and choreographic production within our walls and beyond into the region. We need your investment in The Dance Complex to help us build: please give what you can.
Our Dance Building:
Having set foot in our historic space, you likely understand its import, with its cultural richness and its history palpable from the moment you first stood on the mosaic tile in the front foyer. Those tiles welcome all who move, all who love dance, to our six studios and 15,000 sq. ft. of dance-able space including dressing areas, showers and washrooms, lockers, new sound systems, and an experimental theatre space that seats 100. Over 1,200 movers come through our doors each week to experience dance. All walks of life find themselves dancing all kinds of dance at The Dance Complex—many of whom feel TDC is their artistic home.
This remarkable organization operates on the shoulders of 6 stellar staff, devoted board members, and a veritable army of 115 volunteer/dancers who operate the front desk, clean the building and studios, support numerous specialized projects, and execute countless administrative tasks associated with keeping TDC serving dance, dance audiences, and the dance community.
Our Building Dance:
The Dance Complex is proud to offer 98 weekly classes in 30 different styles. We host rehearsal for over 30 dance companies including: Back Pocket Dancers, PB&J Co., Audra Carabetta and Dancers, Dance Currants Inc., Anna Myer and Dancers, City Step Execs, Duncan Dance, Beyond the 4th Wall, Contrapose, Weber Dance, Prometheus, Kairos Dance Theatre, EgoArt, Inc., Public Displays of Motion, SlutCracker, Jean Appolon Expressions, Unyted Style Productions, Reviving Visions Theatre Company, New Dream Co., DSunDanceX, Abel Dance Company, Dance Visions, Danny Swain Dance Company, Across the Ages Dance Project, Zoe Dance Co., The Bang Group, Dance Organica, Anikaya Dance Theatre, Angie Moon Dance Theatre, Lipstick Criminals, Caitlin Corbett Dance Company, and A Different Spin, to name a few.
Since Executive Director Peter DiMuro’s arrival 18 months ago, we have built up programs that dramatically expand the depth of dance instruction and breadth of choreographic production in the region including: mentoring for artists within the I-ARE and aMaSSIT programs, seasonal dance festivals including Summer Sizzle and Winter Wonder Dance, a series of community gatherings - "Listen/Talk/Do"- geared toward action and a revitalized Performance Series in the building's Julie Ince Thompson Theatre. Long time teaching artists of international renown are joined by guest artists from around the world.
Our Dance Building Building Dance:
In the comings months, through your support of the Dance Building Building Dance campaign, we plan upgrades to our performance space, better sound containment, and HVAC improvements. We also plan new partnerships to bring dance to other corners of our community including inter-generational learning, trans-media learning with other creative fields, and movement programs for those alternately-abled.
But our major "first" priority is Studio 7, a street level portal to dance. Studio 7, with its large open windows, will create a vista of dance, and for dance. It will reveal to the world what you already know: what a treasure we have in The Dance Complex and the major impact we have on those who dance here.
Join us for this first phase of our fundraising and help us create a foundation floor for our Dance Building Building Dance campaign before the year's end. Your tax-deductible donation will have an immediate effect. Together, we will build!
