The Dance Complex is seeking artis“t partners whose own vision, like that of The Dance Complex, is turned toward next...

The Integrated Artists Residency Exchange- the I-ARE - is a mentoring program of The Dance Complex, inaugurated in Fall, 2013, intended to bring an artist’s next steps to intersection with what is next for The Dance Complex - and what is next in the field of dance locally, regionally and nationally. It is one of two mentoring programs, both an extension of a long history of mentoring practice in the field of dance and at The Dance Complex. (For details on the other see aMaSSiT Creative Lab).

Evolving choreographers and choreography within the community through peer-mentoring and lead-artist facilitation is a means to the primary goal of strengthening artists and their work.

The artist/s should have movement/dance as an integrated element of their arts practice and, through an application, be able to describe potential avenues of next interests. Further investigation of an arts practice or a specific creative project will be considered as viable residency activities. Applicants whose intended focus intersects with a perceived or identified need of The Dance Complex community will be given special consideration. In this 2015 version of I-ARE, it is possible that a cohort of up to six artists will be accepted.

The artist/s would be considered an "I-ARE Artist" for a period of 8 - 10 months. Artist/s will be afforded studio use to further their own explorations, with a number of hours at no cost, and additional hours at a discount. Additional hours may be available within specific calendar times. Also, inclusion on the Performing Series at The Dance Complex will be afforded to the artist per mutual agreement, with cost savings options to the artist.

Additionally, monthly group meetings/showings with a mentor/facilitator among a group of I-ARE artists will be both a benefit and mandatory for involvement. Artist/s will share outcomes of their work from their time in residence with the community and the public through dialogue, performance or other means. These times will be mutually agreed upon with The Dance Complex and artist, but minimally will include 3 showings, possibly with other artists, and potentially in informal to formal settings.
