Intermediate/Advanced Contemporary Modern with Megan Bascom & Dancers
Tuesday 12/27 6:00 -7:30
Class is a time to be articulate and imaginative. It is a time to allow yourself to explore, indulge and to be amazed by yourself and others. We will begin with a progression of continuous and cumulative patterns focusing on our strength, alignment, rotations and depth of sensation. Time will be spent exploring how we
relate to one another in movement, taking note of our own tendencies and habits through contact-based scores. We will indulge in intricate play between weight, momentum, torque and our own individual nuance in phrase work that is full and physical, involving propulsion, redirection and a curiosity of focus.
Movement Invention Through Partnering with David Parker and The Bang Group
Wednesday 12/28 11:00 - 1:00
Bang Group members will teach a method used by the company to generate original, personal movement vocabulary through a form we've developed called "Point Phrase" involving points of contact between two dancers. This can be deployed as an improvisational practice, a practice for creating set choreography, for creating duets and a practice for creating solo material. It is enormously flexible, engaging and direct.
Intermediate/Advanced Post Modern with Liz Santoro
Wednesday 12/28 11:00 - 1:00
This class will focus on attention. Giving it, receiving it, taking it, having it, holding it, to ourselves and others Attention is an action, it is movement. There will be an anatomy focused warm-up utilizing both set and improvisational exercises influenced from classical dance forms, performance studies, neurophysiology and cognitive science. A simple movement score will be introduced that will allow the body to invent and discover its own complex variations. We will attempt not only to expand our awareness of our particular bodies in a particular time and space but we will use awareness to gain access to new movement tools.
