The Dance Complex is a hub for the creation, study and performance of dance of all kinds. We value our relationship with, and our evolving place within, the ecology of the dance field, We also value the dynamic growth of dance/movement artists in our metro region. To that end, we are taking an active part in building relationships among dance artists and presenters, connecting local dance artists with New England based dance venues and dance presenters.

The Dance Complex is providing an opportunity for local artists to present their work to local and regional dance presenters and presenting organizations in a showcase format on the afternoon of  January 26, 2019, coinciding with performances of our CATALYSTS artists’ performance that evening.

Artists will be selected to perform at the showcase through an application process, and will be recommended to share between 8 and 13 minutes of work. Applications will be curated by guest panelists comprised of regional dance presenters and dance artists, as well as staff of The Dance Complex. Additionally, for artists not curated into the Showcase, The Dance Complex will create a printed and online listing to share with presenters. There will also be at least one panel on “best practices” in presenting and one social mixer for artists and presenters to get to know each other. There is no fee to showcase work.

Criteria for selection to show work in the Showcase:

• The artistic work will be dance, dance/theatre or movement-centric practice; with all genres of dance/movement considered.
• The artist/company will have publicly presented and/or toured their work in the last three years between 2015 and present.
• The artist/company will offer three contacts (previous presenters, colleagues, etc) as possible references for the work.
• The work will exhibit a thoughtful standard of production values such as consideration of costumes, lighting design, sound design, scenic or prop elements, and multimedia elements.
• The work exhibited will be tour-ready.
• Priority will be given to artists who have been actively engaged with The Dance Complex in the last 4 years
• The representation of a wide variety of genres and styles will be prioritized.
• Artists are available to attend a workshop offered December 27 or 29 at The Dance Complex on talking about artistic work to others, including presenters

 

The showcase will take place in Studio 1 at The Dance Complex on January 26th, afternoon times to be determined. To facilitate a positive presentation, Artists will receive 1 hour of MindBody credit to rehearse/space their work in Studio 1 at The Dance Complex prior to January 26, 2019.

 

Timeline:

November 28: Applications available

December 10: Application deadline- midnight

December 19: Notification of acceptance, with letters of agreement sent

December 23: Letters of agreement returned (failure to return by deadline

may mean forfeiting an artists’ slot)

December 27, 29: Workshop at Dance Complex: Presenting to Presenters

January 3: Tech spec information sheet available; schedule for January 26 with

assignments available

January 10: Deadline to schedule available hour in Studio 1 (January 3- 25th

available)

January 18: Sound files to Complex; tech information sheet returned

January 26: Showcase, Panel(s), CATALYSTS performances
