The Dance Complex welcomes David Parker’s DANCE NOW Boston, a partnership with David Parker and The Bang Group, for a sixth season of performances, May 3-5, 2019. DANCE NOW Boston features two different programs in The Dance Complex’s Studio 7 on May 3 at 8:00 pm, May 4 at 8:00 pm and May 5 at 7:00 pm. The first program, on May 3 and May 5, features Boston artists alongside The Bang Group from New York City; and the second, on May 4 at 8:00 pm features Brendan Drake and his Brooklyn-based company. DANCE NOW Boston commissions Boston artists to create adventurous and engaging new work for cabaret spaces and also provides a touring destination for DANCE NOW NYC artists under whose umbrella DANCE NOW Boston was created.
DANCE NOW Boston’s May 3 8PM and May 5 & 7PM program features new work in a wide range of idioms by Boston area artists Joy Davis, Danielle Davidson and Orlando Hernandez, and Ian Berg for his company, Subject: Matter. They will be joined by David Parker’s Bang Group in a new work. This program will be hosted by the irrepressible Michael Figueroa who has, uniquely, appeared in all 5 seasons of DANCE NOW Boston to date.
In the May 4 8PM program, DANCE NOW NYC artist, Brendan Drake, along with his Brooklyn-based company, will bring a new evening-length work to our cabaret stage called Community Exercises for Sanctuary Spaces. Drake’s work deals with the impact on queer identities of the intense worship of iconic female popular artists. His highly theatrical work, utilizing dance, text and sound was the winner of the DANCE NOW NYC Encores Festival at Joe’s Pub in 2018. DANCE NOW Boston Press Release
