MONDAY 7/6

Coffee Hour with Kledia: featuring Building Caretaker and Theatre Manager Jayne Murphy

11-12PM EST

Join Communications Director Kledia Spiro for an interview with our beloved building caretaker and theatre manager Jayne Murphy! Jayne Murphy has been working in theaters for over 30 years. She has worked in Ireland, Russia, India, Venezuela, Ecuador, South Africa, and across the US with many different dance and theater companies. She toured internationally with the National Theatre of the Deaf for five years as interpreter and company/stage manager. In Johannesburg, South Africa, Jayne oversaw the construction of a new venue, The Dance Factory, which to this day is still the center of dance in the city. For six years, she trained township youth here on all aspects of theater work, giving many of them the skills that launched their own careers. Jayne has also worked at The Dance Complex in Cambridge, MA since 1993 in a vital management and maintenance capacity. A few of the many companies and choreographers Jayne has worked with and managed over the years include: Prometheus Dance, Nicola Hawkins, EgoArt, Danny Swain, Anna Myer & Dancers, Ipswich Moving Company/Jenny Carlson, Danny McCusker Dance, Wendy Jehlen/Anikai, Brian Crabtree, Marcus Schulkind, Christine Bennett, David Parker, Margot Parsons, Honey Blonder, and Karen Murphy.

TUESDAY 7/7

DC Live: Intermediate Modern with Jody Weber

3:30-4:30PM EST

Intermediate modern is a challenging class for dancers with experience. The class focuses on a deep understanding of the body and incorporates ideas from Limon, Cunningham and Graham techniques.  Dancers will move through a warm-up that builds strength and clarifies alignment followed by extended phrases which are rhythmically and physically challenging.  The class also focuses on performance quality, focus and presence.

WEDNESDAY 7/8

Fireside Chats with Peter: rerun featuring Liz Lerman

11-12PM EST

Joined by guests, The Dance Complex’s Executive Artistic Director Peter DiMuro, will be chatting all things dance in Boston and beyond. This week Peter will be joined by award-winning visionary artist, choreographer, performer, writer, teacher, and speaker, Liz Lerman

DC Live: West Afro Dance Training with Papa Sy

3:30-4:30PM EST

West Afro Dance training was created by Papa Sy to help get you in shape through a combination of unique dance moves. Help increase flexibility, endurance, and cardiovascular, stamina all while giving you a burst of energy! 

FRIDAY 7/10

A Night at The Dance Complex: Teaching Artists & Student Concert Spring 2019

7PM EST

Experience both new and recent works by Teaching Artists, performed by both professional and dedicated student dancers in this eclectic program featuring Tap, Hooping, Flamenco, Hip Hop/Fusion, African, Banghra and more! This year’s performances will feature work by Sela P. Bailey, Lolli Hoops, Yosi Karahashi, Sharon Montella & Chris Suharlim, SambaViva, Laura Sanchez, Papa Sy, & Pamela Worth.

 

SATURDAY 7/11

DC Live: Bachata with Bryn Burke

12PM-1PM

This bachata class will focus on footwork and bodymovement for all levels, teaching you fun exercises and techniques you can continue to work on at home. We will warm-up and cooldown with gentle movement and stretching.
