Reflections on the Winter Solstice

Check out Reflections on the Winter Solstice, a 20-minute video reflection featuring Peter DiMuro! Peter, in addition to serving as The Dance Complex’s Executive Artistic Director, continues to practice his craft as a dance/theater artist through the collaborative platform Peter DiMuro/Public Displays of Motion (www.publicdisplaysofmotion.com)!

In Reflections on the Winter Solstice, seven “thought artists” from the Boston area reflect on what the winter solstice means to them. Biographer Megan Marshall recites the bittersweet poetry of her departed love and fills his absence with hope; Peter describes his history as the “product of depression” and his movement toward a more balanced mode of art-making inspired by the consistency – and persistency – of the changing of seasons; Tai Jimenez – dancer, writer, mother, lover of spirit – engages the solstice as “earth’s moment of deep, dreamless sleep,” and encourages us to acknowledge the massive cycles of the seasons writ small within our very bodies. It’s a low-ceilinged, sober, and nicely sodden ride through concepts of grief, loss, darkness, and solitude – toward hope, rebirth, light, community.
