Blog Revival! Share In the Story

Dear Friends,

Welcome to the new Dance Complex blog. In the wake of the pandemic, The Dance Complex is rising from the ashes. One new tool–established as a way of deepening the conversations we have about dance and movement practice as well as expanding the permeability among our various practices–is The Dance Complex blog: a community space to share experiences,  ideas, inspiration, research, special interest stories, documentation, triumphs, and more.

The impulse to revive and revamp this blog is a simple one: I’m interested in building it into a resource that will expand the ways we (i.e. everyone who makes, learns, and moves with The DC) share our work, our thinking, our art, and our selves with one another.

To that aim, a few asks:

First, please help us RENAME THE BLOG! “Blog” sounds like a single person’s writing and doesn’t reflect the community involvement we’re going for. Smashboard? Community Pages? I can’t pretend to know what’ll be a winner, but please send your best ideas to jordan@dancecomplex.org. We’ll issue the prize of a $25 gift card to whomever comes up with or inspires our favorite title!

Come along this journey as the “blog” establishes, then expands. Next week, I’ll release a video about the Oddfellows, who were the architects of the building we move and make in. (The video is two months in the making. An endeavor.) After that, you can expect weekly stories geared towards highlighting folks in our community–and that’s where you come in. An idea for a story or submission could be anything–a recollection of your first class at The DC; a personal manifesto; a smashboard of inspirational images; a story of success or growth; a movement piece inspired by someone else’s post; an expression of a profound experience you’ve had being in or watching a performance… Any and all DC community members who would like to contribute to the blog, please get in touch with me at jordan@dancecomplex.org.

Celebrate the beginning of a community space to share, inspire, and collaborate!

Share In the Story.

Signed,

Jordan Palmer
