You Can Dance If You Want To | Palaver Strings

The Dance Complex and Palaver Strings present You Can Dance If You Want To, April 28, 2019 at 7PM. Palaver Strings, a string chamber orchestra, brings music and dance of many styles together for an unforgettable evening. Half concert, half social dance, this event begins with a performance of Enescu’s Octet for Strings with modern choreography by Chavi Bansal and members of Vimoksha Dance Company. After intermission, all are invited to join Palaver for a contra dance, a New England tradition where no experience or partner is required. Live music will be provided by Palaver Strings and Neil Pearlman, and dancers will be guided by experienced caller Dela Murphy.

Palaver Strings is a musician-led string ensemble and nonprofit, founded by young musicians who share a passion for collaborative music-making, education, and community engagement. Since its opening season in 2014, Palaver has performed at the Kennedy Center and at a  celebration of the Lullaby Project at Carnegie Hall, and has enjoyed residencies at the Boston Center for the Arts and Bay Chamber Concerts in Rockport, ME. With the support of local partner organizations, Palaver plans to open a community music school in Portland, ME in fall 2019. To learn more, visit www.palaverstrings.org
