Dance Sassy

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Chris Suharlim has been dancing since 2007 to upbeat pop and k-pop music. He is a physician and public health practitioner who enjoys dancing to shake the stress away. “It’s my way to stay sane!” said Chris. He started teaching dance as a cardio class at multiple fitness centers in Indonesia in 2011, and has been a teaching artist at the Dance Complex since 2014. Dance Sassy classes use upbeat pop and k-pop songs to channel your inner Sasha FIERCE. All levels are more than welcome! We don’t take life too seriously and dance just to shake the stress away.

What can students expect from this class?

Shake the stress away! After days of deadlines, projects, exams, homework, and meetings, come Dance Sassy with us. Dance Sassy is a unique mix of fem-style fusion, drawing inspiration from hip hop, jazz-funk, heels, waacking, and voguing. We use body and hip moves to create sexy and seductive choreography. We will be dancing with attitude to upbeat pop and k-pop songs (snap! snap!). Classes will begin with a short warm-up, continued by a detailed breakdown of choreography and quick cool down. Feel free to stay afterward to take a video of yourself for all the social media world. The classes do NOT build on each other, meaning that every class teaches the sequence from beginning to end every time. We typically do new choreography every two weeks. Occasionally, before warm-up, we’ll play the previous week’s songs for fun, so feel free to join in (whether you know the choreo or not)! Again, we are dancing to shake the stress away! Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…
