What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Rueda de Casino is a form of Cuban group-dance made out of individual couples within a circle (AKA Rueda). Each of the couples in the circle dance a couple-dance known as Casino (Cuban Salsa), which is why it’s called Rueda de Casino – a wheel of couples dancing Cuban Salsa.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Boston Rueda was started in the early 2000s by Rueda de Casino dancers in the Boston area who were interested in dancing together, learning new moves, performing, etc. J

osé Barretto ran Boston Rueda for many years – thank you José! Now as José has stepped away, we decided to bring Boston Rueda back, both teaching and dancing Rueda de Casino.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

…Sassan’s passion for dancing began in the ballroom discipline 30 years ago. Teaching Salsa and Rueda in Berlin for the last 15 years, he currently runs two established Rueda groups. Sassan is an exceptional Rueda caller (cantante), and teaches complex structures with humor and skillful ease. His focus on the evolution of Rueda de Casino has contributed to some of the new Rueda structures, such as Rueda Torno and Rueda Mixta, and has established him as one of the main representatives of the new European rueda movement.
