Sunday’s Sacred Space: Brazilian Dance with Isaura Oliveira

 

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

This series is rooted into my cultural background from Bahia, Brasil. Its content dance & History of movements of traditional African Brazilian Culture and its fusion with Brazilian Native Indigenous cultural roots. The series dive into spiritual and social approach, into sacred and secular, between traditional and contemporary of my Brazilian Culture.

 

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

My training into my culture started since childhood on the center of my family celebrations. My father is my first mentor, I started to learn from a mentor who was born and raised on the rural area. The popular celebration on our streets and our neighborhoods and continue through community activities, then going to a formal dance education at the Federal University of Bahia, Brasil. It was community and professional performance opportunities that set me grounded on the African Brazilian Dance Technique and Popular Theater performer of street and stage productions.

 

What can students expect from this class?

This class intend to engage participants to practice Brazilian Dance Movements as well as to improve their skills on the technique of the movements. Series is open to all levels of dance experience focus on all levels to improve in technique and in performance.
