What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Boston Bollywood celebrates the majestic entertainment powerhouse: Bollywood, the Indian film industry. It is a tribute to all the artists whose combined talent and perseverance makes Bollywood the huge production house it is today. ​​By drawing inspiration from their work, the aim of Boston Bollywood is to delight our dancers with dance forms rooted in classical and folk styles and transport them to the magical land of India.

 

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

This class is taught by Swati Tiwari who is the founder and artistic director of Boston Bollywood. Swati Tiwari has been trained in Bharatnatyam and Rajasthani Folk dance. She led Nazar Bollywood dance troupe from fall of 2011 to Fall of 2015 and has choreographed Bollywood numbers for Somerville-based OnStage Dance Company. She served as a judge on South Asian Showdown, 2016 — New England’s biggest Bollywood Dance Competition. She served as team co-captain for Boston Bollywood Xtreme that won South Asian Showdown 2017. Having choreographed 46 separate acts in 10 seasons of Boston Bollywood, Swati was a guest choreographer for the World of Dance Ensemble production at Endicott College.
