What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Bharatanatyam originated in South India, and is one of eight Indian classical dance forms. This style of dance combines bhava (emotions), raga (melody) and tala (rhythm) together through intricate footwork, nuanced facial expression and hand movements (mudras). Theoretical origins of this dance form can be found in the Natya Shastra, dating back to 200 BCE to 200 CE. While this dance form was banned in the early 1900s, it was later on revived in the 1930s, and over the years has transformed into the dance form we now observe today.
