What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Bollywood Fusion is the overarching term for dancing to music in any South Asian language, but is most associated with soundtracks from Hindi cinema. It showcases traditional folk and classical Indian dance forms, and explores how they have evolved over time, at times incorporating flair from other styles such as jazz and hip hop. Classes may emphasize springy footwork and bold arms inspired by Bhangra; or soft, swift hand movements and soulful expressions inspired by Kathak or Bharatanatyam played to modern heavy beats. Any combination of these elements is possible!

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Nishtha is a seasoned dancer with over 20 years of experience, performing at cultural shows, captaining collegiate dance teams and teaching community dance workshops. Her formal training in Bharatanatyam, and love for Bhangra and hip hop music fuels her teaching style. She continues to cultivate a love for dance through local dance teams, events and teaching.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

It allows me to express myself and connect with my Indian roots, through its unique music and varied languages. I also love the sense of community dance brings about!
