What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

One of the most popular music genres of the past several decades, house is a genre of electronic dance music that emerged in Chicago in the late 70s/early 80s following the disco era. The term “house” was derived from The Warehouse, a Chicago club where the music was often played. Though the essence of house dance is purely freestyle, popular steps performed in NYC dance clubs were eventually recognized as “house dance foundation.” Members of NYC’s Dance Fusion were the first to teach house dance beginning in the late 1980s & early 90s, and now the dance style is universally recognized worldwide.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

A master Taekwondo-ist and professional dancer, Sean was introduced to house dance by Ricardo Foster Jr in 2007. In 2013, Boston house leaders Sammy Savuth and Steven Garcia invited Sean to join Boston’s underground house music scene. From 2017 onward, Sean has trained under mentor Edson Gonzaga, who further unlocked Sean’s own personal dance style and ability to dissect and understand music. Combining proven analytical teaching methods with his martial arts and dance experience has allowed Sean to help dancers around the world to better understand & appreciate the lineage of house music and dance.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

…House helps me be my best self.
