KWAITO Summer Series

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Street dance in South Africa is a form expression being it pure joy, love, happiness and sometimes frustrations of day-to-day life experiences. It is intrinsically linked to the type of music you’ll find on radio, streaming platforms and just creatives sharing live performances for the love of it.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

The class will comprise of movements from small to big having everything to do with feet, quick steps and, knee patterns to create a move that makes sense with beats and sometimes lyrics. Waist movements are always part of it in connection with facial expressions and showing of how much one is having and just expression happens for being able to do it.

What can students expect from this class?

The class is basically movements complimenting the beats in the music and having your body have an experience each time with each beat, sound and song.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

it is a refreshing celebration of street style of Mzansi street culture through the grounded sounds of drum and base and acceleration of movements in style.
