This class starts with understanding salsa music’s rhythm and timing in addition to a brief history of the music and dance. You will learn the basic steps and partnering fundamentals. It will then move on to cover basic body movement, right turn, hesitation left turn, and cross-body lead. Learn simple turn patterns to get you out on the dance floor. |

| What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?
Salsa is a musical and dance style that originated in Cuba with African roots and European influences. It later developed in New York and it’s popular throughout Latin America in places like Puerto Rico, Colombia, Peru and Cuba just to name a few. |
| What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?
I grew up listening to Salsa music and later got interested in the dance. As a teenager, I was part of a Colombian folk dance group before starting to perform Salsa duets with my brother Andres. I’v been teaching Salsa for about 25 years now and last year we celebrated 20 years of our dance company, Salsa y Control. |
