What can students expect from this class?

60 min Mat Pilates class using the Tabata method. We break down movements to really understand our bodies and find connection. Mat Pilates focuses on core strength and the rejuvenation of the body through micro movements. Pilates was created in similar concepts to physical therapy; to heal the body with safe movement. One hour of fun music and a workout that will leave you smiling, strong and empowered. Accessible and inclusive to all bodies.

Students should bring their own water bottle and mat.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Mat Pilates is a low-impact exercise that uses body weight to strengthen and lengthen the body, particularly the core. It’s based on the original exercises created by Joseph Pilates, and can be practiced on a mat with little to no equipment.

 

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Carolina started her journey teaching in 2020. She has always been an active person participating in track, playing soccer, biking, and bouldering. In 2018 she started to take yoga classes and Pilates classes. She fell in love with movement once again. when the pandemic hit she did her first certification for Mat Pilates, then soon after also got certified in strength classes, 300 hour training in Hot 26 yoga, 100 hours of Trauma informed yoga, and Yin yoga training. Carolina’s certifications all align in how she teaches her classes that are mindful and invigorating.

…growing up I never had representation or encouragement in movement. As an indigenous queer thicc instructor my goal will always be to open the doors for a diverse community to enjoy movement in the body they are in and to empower themselves not only physically but also mentally.
