This class focuses on strengthening your body and increasing your movement confidence. As we age, we lose muscle mass and worry about falling. For beginners, flow / sequential movement are a challenge. In class we strengthen, work on getting up from the floor and work on balance and building grey matter through challenging sequences.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?
I have worked on strengthening dancers and self-identified “non-dancers.” I love to find the best way to help people understand movement and how to accomplish transitions between movements. I have been cirtified in Better Brain & Balance as well as I have taught this class for over 18 years.
What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?
Andy Taylor got her BFA in Dance from UMAss Amherst. She has taught modern, jazz and International Folk Dance for over 5 decades. She has certifications in Scottish Country dance, Better Brain and Balance, Autism Dance Therapy and has taught locally and nationally. Her training in modern dance includes Horton, Limon, Simonson Technique and Luigi Jazz.
Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…
…All people can move and what we lack is confidence. Work on the basics of transfer of weight and following paths with arms and legs; we progress. Moving to music, breathing through the anxiety, having a supportive community are all parts of the whole which make us resilient and help us thrive. Expanding our movement vocabulary allows for more freedom inside and out.
