Rainbowdance® Toddler/Caregiver Class

What can students expect from this class?

Primary Rainbowdance® is offered to children aged 1.5- 3 years and a caregiver. A structured sequence of sound and gesture integrated movement activities encourage secure attachment to the caregiver and to the peer group, while providing a soothing and energizing first experience with peers. Through the language of the body, children learn to discern safe and positive facial cues and physical territory exploring music, soft props and story. Dancers with special needs are always welcome. We will work with you to find the right class placement and offer 1:1 sessions when appropriate.

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Dicki Johnson Macy began designing Rainbowdance® in 1988. A primary goal was to create an inclusive group experience for all children. Healthy relationship building became the end product of this structured and joyful collection of vocal and movement activities. Toddler Rainbowdance® places focus upon the primary attachment relationship between the child and a caregiver.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Dicki has trained clinicians and dancers to disseminate this program nationally and internationally. She is a board-certified Dance/Movement Therapist, a Licensed Mental Health Counselor, and the director of the Boston Children’s Foundation. The Art and Technique of Isadora Duncan informs her Rainbowdance® curriculum. She is one of few Duncan teachers to have studied throughout her childhood with Anita Zahn (Isadora’s student).

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

singing and moving together in this safe and structured program makes children and their parents happy.
