What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

Semiclassical dance is influenced by Indian classical dance forms, folk, and Bollywood. Think of it as a more accessible form of classical dance without the extensive years of training. It can be performed on contemporary film tracks, while maintaining the essence of the classical dance. It’s become more popular through cinema & social media.

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Krithi is an active, passionate dancer from the Boston area, who always endeavors to tell a personal narrative through her choreography and performance, particularly developing her semiclassical style of dance. Trained in Bharatanatyam from the age of 5 and Kathak since 2021, she credits classical dance to be the foundation of her skill. Semiclassical is influenced by Indian classical forms, folk, and Bollywood and her style blends these elements into choreographies that allow for visual storytelling and are accessible to dancers of all levels.

Finish this statement: I am passionate about teaching this style because…

it allows for expressive storytelling while encompassing the graceful movements of Indian classical dance
