What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching? |
Contemporary simply means “of today”, so it’s a genre that is constantly shifting and looks a little different in every class. My style is rooted in Modern, which was primarily a rebellion to ballet in late 19th century Europe.
|
What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject? |
After receiving by BA in dance, I performed professionally with Intersect Dance Theatre for three years. I then opened a a dance studio for adults in Southern California, where I’ve taught release technique and floor work for the last 11 years. I’m brand new to the Boston area and excited to connect with new faces.

What can students expect from this class? |
Class includes a set warm-up, power yoga, a bit of improv and a bit of across the floor before getting into choreography. The class combos are driven by musicality, floor work, and learning to use momentum (vs. muscle) to find release.
|
Why are you passionate about teaching this style? |
Dance makes people come alive…there’s no other feeling that compares. Too often it’s turned into a competitive or uncomfortable experience, but it’s rooted in both community and feeling good in your own body. I love facilitating a welcoming, joyful experience for dancers.
