The Art & Technique of Isadora Duncan: for 8-11 year olds

 

What can students expect from this class?

Rainbowdance® prepares children aged 5-18 for this program. Having an established sense of harmony & affiliation to each other & to the natural world, they move forward to explore their unique & collective beauty & expression. Children explore emotional intention, manifested through music & movement. Themes include: Leadership & Following, Join & Retreat, Transition, Alone & together, Nature as Teacher, Myth Based Dances & Improv. Dancers with special needs are always welcome. We will work with you to find the right class & offer 1:1 sessions when appropriate.

Please register with Boston Children’s Foundation. Class sizes are limited and filled upon receipt of tuition. If classes are at capacity upon registration, you will be placed on a waitlist:

What is the legacy of the genre/form/style you are teaching?

The Art & Technique of Isadora Duncan offers celebratory explorations of relationship to classical music, peers, ancestral community & nature. Duncan, “Mother of Modern Dance,” sought movements expressive of the human spirit; her technique glorifies natural movement, sources rhythmic & emotional links fundamental to all life & traces dance to its sacred roots using mythological archetypes & ritual. Dicki has for 30+yrs encourage responsiveness to beautiful music & joyful movements inspired by nature in non-competitive environments for healthy emotional, creative & physical development.

 

What background, training, and or relationship do you have with this style/technique/class subject?

Dicki, a 3rd generation Duncan Dancer, was trained as a child by Anita Zahn (Isadora’s student). She carries on the tradition which informs her Rainbowdance® program, & her training of graduate students. She is an Isadora Duncan Movement Analyst, director of the performance group Guardians of Isadora, BC-DMT, LMHC, and the director of Boston Children’s Foundation (BCF). Ashlyn, R-DMT: immersed in the Duncan genre since 2020. Bella, R-DMT, LMHC: immersed in the Duncan genre since 2019. Under the mentorship of Dicki, Ashlyn & Bella are certified teachers in DJM’s Isadora Duncan Children’s Pedagogy, members of the Guardians of Isadora performance troupe, & Assistant Directors of BCF.
