Dear Dance Complex Community,
We hope that you are all staying safe and healthy during this challenging situation. We continue to closely monitor official guidance from local government, health authorities, and the CDC in order to support the health and wellbeing of our community. The health of our students, teachers, choreographers, dancers, and movers always comes first. The effect of cancellations to small organizations – already low in infrastructure, reserve, and capacity – hits very true to The Dance Complex. We are strategic in our closure possibility- health first, but we also continue to be responsive rather than reactionary.
We are mindful that this pandemic has a drastically different impact on those with disparate socioeconomic backgrounds. We are also making a conscious effort to help the dance-making community as a whole, especially due to the recent closure of Green Street, and the imminent closure of Studio 550. During this difficult time, our Next Deep Step comes from a compassionate framework. Please don’t hesitate to reach out to The Dance Complex if you have any questions or concerns.
We are following all of the CDC health guidelines and we have increased cleaning, communications, and what we ask of our community.
What we are doing:
- In additional to our regular cleaning procedures we have introduced the following measures:
- We are encouraging staff, faculty and the dance community to stay home if they present symptoms
- We have engaged 2 additional professional cleaners to assist in the deeper cleaning of the building
- Staff and volunteers are regularly wiping down all lobby and public areas.
- Instructional hand-washing signs are up in every bathroom
- Every studio already has both antibacterial sanitizer bottles as well as tubs of disinfectant wipes and we are reminding everyone to wipe down surfaces and equipment used at the beginning AND end of each studio use,
- Front desk staff are ready to replenish supplies as needed or on request.
Increased precautions as of 03/11/20
In addition to the changes mentioned in our previous e-newsletter, we have also added a Swiffer mop to each studio. They are located in the corner of each studio along with their refills. We highly recommend our teachers use the Swiffer before and after class to remove any bacteria.
We also encouraged temporarily adopting a “-5/+5” grace period for the time being. This would mean taking the last and first 5 minutes in the studios to wipe down surfaces and equipment as well as sanitizing hands. This would really aid in protecting the health and safety of our community here in the Dance Complex.
What can you do to help?
- Be self sustaining: stay home and seek medical help if you present symptoms
- Clean your hands often
- Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds especially after you have been in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing.
- If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol. Cover all surfaces of your hands and rub them together until they feel dry.
- Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth with unwashed hands.
- Be conscious of the space you are using: if renting the studio for your own classes and/or rehearsals, encourage a clean transition as studios shift to the next inhabitant
- Avoid close contact with people who are sick
- Cover coughs and sneezes
- Cover your mouth and nose with a tissue when you cough or sneeze or use the inside of your elbow.
- Throw used tissues in the trash.
- Immediately wash your hands with soap and water for at least 20 seconds. If soap and water are not readily available, clean your hands with a hand sanitizer that contains at least 60% alcohol.
- Clean and disinfect
- Clean AND disinfect frequently touched surfaces daily. This includes tables, doorknobs, light switches, countertops, handles, desks, phones, keyboards, toilets, faucets, and sinks.
- If surfaces are dirty, clean them: Use detergent or soap and water prior to disinfection.
- *And always, let us know by contacting operations@dancecomplex.org should there be a concern*
Please do share this information with your community and feel free to reach out to the office if you have any questions or concerns. Thank you for dancing with us here at The Dance Complex!
