Peter DiMuro, Choreographer in Residence at the Isabella Stewart Gardner Museum, is creating performance installations for a series of public “dancer-led tours” of the galleries at the Gardner (October 11-25, 2018), as well as a special performance in the museum’s Calderwood Hall for the October Third Thursday (October 18).
Peter, along with his company, Public Displays of Motion, will be developing a chorus of Gardner and Boston community members dressed as/embodying Isabella.
Movement for the chorus of Isabellas will be partially developed in rehearsals, as well as crafted from interviews with visitors to the museum that occurred earlier this spring/summer. The choreography will include a range of quick movements in unison (think post-modern “Vogue-ing”) as well as utter stillness (think post-modern Butoh!). An ability to commit to the intention and repetition of movement is required. Video for home-study will be provided between rehearsals.
Who can participate?
Participation is open to all, regardless of gender or sexual identity, and movement/dance experience. All ages are welcome, with those under 15 required to have an adult partner in the chorus, or permission from the company. The physical demands of the chorus will accommodate all levels of experience and ability, however dedicated attendance to rehearsals and the ability to remember and perform movement consistently are required. While PDM celebrates all bodies moving in space, the company reserves the right to limit participants’ involvement to movement/dances that reflect the individual in the best possible light; casting for roles in the Isabella chorus may reflect this goal, as well as the artistic goals for the piece.
