Jim Stiles is a neighbour, dance enthusiast and a committed friend of the Dance Complex. He works with social sector organizations to help them turn their best thinking into improved results. He is currently a Senior Associate at Fourth Quadrant Partners, LLC. Prior to Fourth Quadrant, he spent twenty-five years in higher education, first in a series of senior executive roles at Harvard University and then as an Associate Professor of Leadership at the University of Witwatersrand in Johannesburg. His current research and consulting is driven by two related questions. How social sector organizations think about their impact and frame it for others? How do social sector organizations understand their efforts, measure their progress and communicate about their work inside and outside of the organization.
Apart from his work with The Dance Complex, he serves on the executive committee for Boston’s SpeakEasy Stage Theatre and is a member of the Board and Secretary for Sacred Heart Marist Observatory supporting the work of a leading independent school in Johannesburg, South Africa.
Grounded in quantitative analysis and an understanding of complex-adaptive systems, he has authored articles or chapters on collaboration among university faculty and performance measurement in Higher Education, the integration of technology in primary schools and, most recently, how to accelerate collective learning and results in foundations.
